About Trento

Nestled among the mountains of Trentino-Alto Adige, Trento DOC is an appellation for white and rosé sparkling wine. Only Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Pinot Blanc grapes are permitted here.

70% of the land in this wine region lies above 1000 meters and these highlands, known as The Dolomite Alps, are now recognized as a Unesco Natural World Heritage Site.

Influenced by its alpine climate, the region has a long history of winemaking and is particularly celebrated for its premium sparkling wines made using the traditional Champagne method (Metodo Classico). Trento DOC is the appellation for ‘Metodo Classico,’ that is produced in the Trentino area.

Focus Producer: Ferrari

Ferrari was established by Giulio Ferrari in 1902 who dreamt of creating a sparkling wine in Trentino that would compete with the top Champagnes.

Giulio was the first to undertake substantial plantings of Chardonnay in Italy, and today Trentino is the largest vineyard area in Italy planted with Chardonnay grapes.

In 2017, they received Organic Certification for all company owned vineyards.
