About Piedmont

Piedmont (‘Pied’ meaning foot and ‘mont’ meaning mountain) is famous not only for its wines – the likes of Barolo, Barbaresco and Roero – but also its food, including truffles.

Piedmont is undoubtedly one of the most important wine-growing regions, not only in Italy but also in the world. The popularity of the region is ensured by the variety of Nebbiolo, from which the wines Barolo, Barbaresco, and Roero are produced.

This wine region stretches between the Alps from the north and the Apennines from the south. These two mountain ranges have a significant role in the viticulture of the region. They are responsible for the favourable climate and terroir, which produces classic Piedmont wine.

Focus Producers

Morgassi
A small estate of 50 hectares, the winery is managed by sisters Marina and Cecilia Piacitelli, who took over from their father who created the winery in 1993. Morgassi is regarded as one of the top producers of the increasingly popular wine, Gavi. Their grapes are grown on calcareous clays and shale which contribute to their wine’s amazing minerality and freshness. They only release their whites after a year’s bottle ageing, meaning they are richer and more elegant than many of their rivals.

Riva Leone
The name Riva Leone is taken from the name of a wine merchant from Alba in Northern Italy, who at the beginning of 20th century, decided to bottle the wine that he sold on tap to his clients. The house portrayed in the label shows his shop in the countryside of Alba. Produced and bottled in a state of the art winery in Priocco, Riva Leone is a fantastic example of modern Italian winemaking at its best.

Giovanni Rosso
Giovanni Rosso is a family-owned producer whose history dates back several generations. The Rosso family has been cultivating vines and producing wine in Serralunga d’Alba, one of the renowned subregions of Barolo, for over a century. he winery only produces red wines and are known for their exceptional Barolo wines.
