About Puglia

Puglia producers make bold red wines with local grapes such as Negroamaro and Primitivo.

Puglia is known for its rich wine heritage, diverse grape varieties, and distinctive wine styles. Puglia’s focus is on fruit forward, ripe, full bodied red wine that pairs well with a variety of food.

Puglian wine is the product of a diverse landscape. The warm climate and fertile soil make it easy to grow almost anything. Did you know that they produce half of Italy’s olive oil! Puglia is surrounded by water on three sides allowing cool breezes off the Mediterranean to moderate vineyard temperatures.

Focus Producers

Zensa
Zensa, pronounced ‘senza’, by Italian definition means ‘without’. It is a reference to their winemaking philosophy and practices, which are entirely organic and focus on as little human interference as possible. Grapes are selected from fully organic vineyards, which are rich in wild flora and fauna that replace the need for chemical pesticides or insecticides. Their wines are also entirely vegan-friendly. Zensa’s motto is ‘green in the growing, and friendly in the production’.

Masseria Borgo Dei Trulli
In the ‘heel of Italy’s boot,’ in the Salento region of Puglia, lies Masseria Borgo dei Trulli. The winery takes its name from the plural of ‘Trullo,’ traditional Puglian dry stone huts that were mainly used as field shelters or storehouses. Home to dark, thick-skinned black grape varieties, the focus here is on indigenous grapes and interesting production methods. The winery uses a unique Appassimento technique that Masseria Borgo dei Trulli use. It can be translated as the “twisting of the stem”, but its more ideal to say the “pinching of the stem”
